Dave’s parties
I talked Dave into the idea of “HIV negative” parties. Every 3 months or so, he will host a party to celebrate testing negative for HIV. And guys? There’s nothing more appealing to the ladies than a man who has a clean bill of health. HIV is not a death sentence, talk to your physician…
Selling smells
I have an idea that involves generating nice smells. Shut up. It’s not some retarculous smell-o-vision idea. That idea is still dead for a reason and it’s not because we haven’t got the technology yet. Dream Cafe My idea is to have a restaurant that deals in smells. We don’t have to generate the smells…
The myth of porn
There is a fascinating article in the New York Magazine called The Myth of Porn. It talks about having men exposed to so much pornography isn’t turning them into rapists like some feminists predicted. But rather, it’s made men less interested in real women. Bad porn For the first time in human history, the images’…
Review: Borat Movie
Borat is a shit movie. I expected some sort of very dark comedy with lots of social commentary on the attitudes towards weird foreign culture and exposing all the political incorrectness in the US. I hoped to expose some of the fervent racism and sexism out there. Shed some light on the extreme fanaticism and…
Am I right?
Am I right in thinking that you don’t deserve me? I’m a prideful person but I’m not boastful. I’m scared of ever asking more than I feel I’m owed. I don’t think I’m entitled to more than I need but I can’t shake the feeling that I’ve spent the longest time selling myself short. Deep…
See ya later, Gyan
Off to Germany! Gyan’s off globe-trotting again and this time she gets to see awesome places like Germany and England and France. And yes, she speaks none of the native languages fluently. Not even English.
Free Public Transport for Students
Seriously? One of the Victorian Liberal Party’s promises just confounds me. They promise to provide free public transport to students (PDF 90kB). Little Johnny Look, public transport is expensive. But to me, it feels like it is money being thrown into the wrong place. For one thing, you’re not making the education any better. Don’t…
I Gave Up
Sorry guys and gals, I’m throwing in the towel on NaNoWriMo. It’s not working out. I got to 2500 words of crap and then conked out. Nothing to motivate me to keep writing. I lost enthusiasm for the story. 2500 words? :( The lesson here? Don’t write about something you don’t really want to write…
End of Exams
I had my last exam on Wednesday night. I don’t feel particularly elated. That’s not to say I’m numb. I felt relieved and I felt a great weight being lifted off my shoulders when that exam ended. But I’m not crazy-mad-happy. I don’t know what is weighing on me.
Denny! ;_;
I miss Denny. I heard Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol in the café today and I got sort of nostalgic.
Review: The Departed
The Depahhhhhrted. Not being from the US, I had no idea that Bostonians had that sort of accent. It grows on you though. I wish I could say ‘car’ with such gusto. Blood Spray! Anyway, it’s a good movie. A lot of violence is deliberately unglamourous. There’s an interesting contrast with the film’s title referencing…
Neuroscientist and Millionaire
There’s a story in Seed Magazine about a Congitive Neuroscientist on Millionaire. It deals with one of my favourite things to do: bringing up random pieces of trivia on command by tracing a path through your memories. Had I known that cognitive neuroscience could be this cool, I might have been a doctor instead. Stuffy…
Aries Spears
Over at kottke.org, Jason has linked to a video of a comedian called Arie Spears doing some great impersonations of rappers. Get Flash Player to see the video. Aries Spears Rap. Pop! Seriously? That sound you heard was my mind being blown. This guy has done his homework and they are some of the realest…
Housing Options
I really haven’t thought that hard about how I’m going to live when i get to Seattle. I mean, for the longest time I imagined that I’d be living alone in some big spacious studio apartment. But seriously? It’s financially irresponsible for someone my age and do I really want to be that much of…
The Matron and I
Look, I know I said cats are a burden. And I am fully aware that I am blogging about cats. I am sorry. But! She’s a hella smart cat. She has already adapted to my habits. Trying to Study For the past 3 or 4 nights I have spent my nights on the 2-seater couch…
Living Away From Home
For those that don’t know, I’ve been housesitting for the past week and a half with Lachlan in the inner suburbs of Melbourne. I’ve sort of viewed it as an ill-fitting example of what life might be like after I move to Seattle and start living alone. So, how has it been so far? Chores…
Review: Typo 4.0.3 on Dreamhost
I mentioned in my first post that I wouldn’t recommend Typo for anyone looking to install a blog engine. Rails Fever I started playing with Typo because I thought, finally a capable blog engine with some decent development momentum behind it. I’m a natural tinkerer and I like being able to upgrade things and see…
First Chapter
I have officially started Nanowrimo 2006. The theme this year is short chapters. People love short chapters because they’re sort of blog-esque in the fact that it makes things small and digestable (like M&M’s!). Here is the first chapter I have written. Rough Draft 01 Let me tell you about a book I’m writing. Guy…
Version 6
Welcome to Version 6 of this blog. I have nicknamed the design, “Good Jack”. As of November 2006, I’m running on Typo 4.0.3. I wouldn’t recommend anyone else run Typo though. It’s still a bit immature and you are better off running a steady workhorse like WordPress. B&W Photographs The photographs used in the header…
