I Gave Up

Sorry guys and gals,

I’m throwing in the towel on NaNoWriMo. It’s not working out.

I got to 2500 words of crap and then conked out. Nothing to motivate me to keep writing. I lost enthusiasm for the story.

2500 words? :(

The lesson here? Don’t write about something you don’t really want to write about. I started off with a bit of random violence, aiming to create some finely orchestrated cyberpunk but ultimately I don’t really have an appreciation for the genre and I don’t know what I’m doing.

Bad Metaphor

Sure, NaNoWriMo is all about pure output. There’s nothing in there about a cohesive plot or interesting characters. That’s fine. I understand that. But I need to actually enjoy writing. It’s not a month-long exercise in torture, it’s more like running a marathon because you love exercise and you love the challenge.

So, I give up. But I’ll be back next year.

Weee! I’m reading Pattern Recognition at the moment! Just finished reading Neal Stephensons The Diamond Age or, A Young Lady’s Illustrated Primer. Took me a while to get in to it, but enjoyed! Also liked Zodiac by the same. So differerent, though!

Why don’t you keep writing just without the pressure of the Nanomrieorwoewoero thingy? You obviously have a talent for writing, so why not write when you feel like it, who knows you might come up with something good :-P

I think you’re right, Mike. I’ve been holding myself back all year with regards to writing and it feels like there’s too much pressure to get it perfect in November. I think I’ll start writing fiction just for the hell of it now.
