Review: Borat Movie

Borat is a shit movie.

I expected some sort of very dark comedy with lots of social commentary on the attitudes towards weird foreign culture and exposing all the political incorrectness in the US. I hoped to expose some of the fervent racism and sexism out there. Shed some light on the extreme fanaticism and fundamentalism. Maybe some of the weird ways people justify their lifestyles and voting habits.

Jackass 2 is probably better

Instead it was more like a 2-hour license for Borat to say offensive things under the guise of being from a backwards country. Add in his own ham-fisted version of Jackass-style gross-out humour.

There were snide hints of social commentary but on the whole, the movie dealt with Borat’s fictional customs and inability to cope with America.

Haha, let’s have sexy time!

I was utterly disappointed by the level of the humour. It’s funny but I did not have tears in my eyes and it did not live up to any of the hype I have heard so far. All I could see was deception and playing the same tired practical joke on every person they interviewed.

3/10

The whole thing felt like a desperate struggle for screen-filler with our Kazakh reporter feeling like an awkward intruder on to the silver screen. I kept wishing they’d cut back to Ali G in the studio.

You’ve restored my faith in comedy, someone with some taste, or at least, minimum standards, in comedy at last. Everyone here loves the movie. Bleh bleh bleh.

Reading this entry again, I realised I probably gave a few English teachers a stroke with the grammar I used. Oh well, such is the interblahg.

Dude, the movie was created by the guy who brought the world Ali G - a character based around the word “aaiiight”. I think your expectations were a little too high. I haven’t seen it yet, I do want to though. However, I already realise that its not going to be an expose’ on political incorrectness in the US or how Americans can justify their wierd lifestyles. Its a B-grade comedy aimed right at the 15-20 year old ‘cool crowd’, if you try and put something thought provoking in front of them they’ll feel threatened and revolt, ie - not watch the movie or download the ringtones and mobile wallpapers for their phones. Thats just my opinion anyway.

the 15-20 yo ‘cool crowd’ probably downloads the movie anyway.

People have been recommending to go see this simply for the cringeworthiness.

pfft the movie is good, stop taking movies too seriously. Borat has always been like this in his mini skits.

As for not enough social commentary….rubbish, it had plenty, any more and it wouldn’t be a mockumentary
