Places to put porn
Thu, 18 Jan 2007.
Warning: This is going to be a big ‘duh’ moment for any geeks that read this site.
If you look around in the media, you may hear more and more family groups that are up in arms over the enabling of young children to view pornography. Namely, technology that enables the viewing of pornography. They don’t want children to see pornography; who could argue with that?
To that end, here are the list of things that can be used to store and/or view pornography:
- book
- Magazine
- CD
- DVD
- Television
- Computer
- Locker door
- Mobile phone
- PSP (PlayStation Portable)
- Nintendo DS
- Wii
- Xbox 360
- Playstation 3
- iPod
- Under the mattress
- Back of closet
- USB keys
- Digital cameras
- etc.
As a parent, it’s pretty tough to police all these entry vectors. And there are many possible solutions all with their own special interest groups that will argue against them.
So! Here’s today’s thought exercise! Put yourself in the shoes of a parent and think out loud about how you would make sure your child is not corrupted by pornography.

Spend time with your kids and be honest and open about human sexuality- something to be celebrated & enjoyed (safely, at the right time, and in the right place), rather than something dirty, perverse, to be hidden & denied. Of course, that’ll probably just embarrass them. Oh well.
I don’t know what I’d do as a parent. Being a parent scares the crap out of me, children scare me, them viewing porn would be the least of my problems.
But I do have to say thanks, now I have some new places to store my “stuff”.
Yup, I’ll second Studds. And if you have a really close and honest relationship with them, offer to view some material with them and explain stuff. (I’ve only heard of one parent who has done this…maybe a bit of a long shot.)
Saw this on digg a while back…. not sure if I’d recommend this style of parenting. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2007-01/16/content_784352.htm
Hmmm, also… I wonder how porn stars teach their kids about sex… :P
Give em the talk, and explain to them the fakeness of porn, and tell them the porn to stay clear off and why.
Would porn stars have kids?
