links for March/April 2007
Sun, 15 Apr 2007.
Hey all, I’ve been using del.icio.us lately and here is a dump of all the links I’ve collected in my month and a half of using it. From now on, there will be automated daily postings to this blog of the links that I gather. Hopefully it won’t be too overwhelming.
-
This is utter car porn. It is like watching lesbians give each other a sponge bath.
-
“I keep getting a negative answer for number ten. What does that mean?”
“It means you’re gay.” -
I always wondered how they wrote movies for Will Ferrel.
-
Some silly jokes to take us home for the day.
-
This is so very obviously the best literary analysis I have ever read. Rob Harvilla’s tongue is planted firmly and unwaveringly in his cheek and there are shivers shooting down my spine.
-
Following the time-honoured tradition of booting heroin- now it is time to make pancakes.
-
This is one of the most fun websites I have seen in a while. I think I want to buy this book.
-
Mii sculptures to top a couples wedding cake. So very cute.
-
Oh god, do I really have to sign up for Comcast? These guys are like BigPond except they have a very real monopoly.
-
What can old CD spindles be used for? Transporting bagels! Yay!
-
Having a true “primary” and “secondary” monitor. I might try this setup when I’m bored one day.
-
“Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do…” I only know this song from a Futurama reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey during a romantic montage when Bender is going out with the Planet Express ship.
-
Links about VoIP that I might eventually setup for cheap calls to/from Australia if it’s cheap/easy enough.
-
Someone manages to lose a python. In the Google building. On April Fool’s Day.
-
Saying the inappropriate thing either to ruffle some feathers or to cut to the truth like a scalpel. Derek is right on the money.
-
Woo, look at all them TV stations… how do I get them?
-
Insertion of a stray yellow balloon into many classic films.
-
This. Is. CAKETOWN!!!!
-
How to de-hype Grindhouse. This is a good approach for tackling the fevered and nostalgic wet dreams that Tarantino calls “a movie”.
-
I wish I had this resource when I was batch-filing as a kid. Batch files rocked my socks… I may be more of a scripter than a programmer.
-
Who needs Photoshop, right? Actual painting time is 2 hours, 30 minutes but the video only plays for about 5 minutes. It’s not an exact copy but that’s good because you know it’s an original.
-
A very friendly site to help you determine the scale of things from billions of light years to the humble sub-atomic particles. Reminds me of the film, Powers of Ten, but less nerdy and more fun for the kids of today.
-
Artificial rose spotted on Bay Street, Toronto.
-
The cost of leaving a PC on 24 hours a day is something I am constantly debating. Turns out, if you live in California, it’s pretty pricey. You could get lots of nice things for $16/month.
-
I need to set up a savings account with a half-decent interest rate. I’d like to have something pretty close to my Australian ING account where I could set up different accounts to save up for different things.
-
In short, the sources for the Prius’ materials are environmentally unfriendly to the point where it is unethical. And savings on fuel take several years before they offset the premium paid. Doesn’t say if carbon emissions are reduced overall though.
-
I will buy one of these eventually. I like it but I’m not sure how much I like it.
-
Folding wonton wrappers as origami and then deep frying them. I want a frog.
-
I’ll take my parents here on the weekend.
-
Holy crap, this is why you would watch basketball.
-
If you think people that ride bikes in the narrow gap between parked cars and trams are crazy, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

first of all FRRROOOSSSTTINNG.
Secondly - that video of the bike riders going through New York just enforces the argument that cyclists shouldn’t be allowed on the road. Their a danger to themselves, to other vehicles and to pedestrians. Scum of the earth they are.
I’d take the Prius v Hummer thing with a grain of salt…the study was done by CNW Marketing Research, who have thus far refused to provide any details of their study for peer review. Essentially they’re claiming this without providing any actual evidence or letting anyone verify it. That’s not to say they might not be right, but for all the evidence they’re providing they’re about as credible as Steorn (who at least claimed to have impartial scientists verifying their results in private).
Dammit. So many misinformative landmines to watch out for when the oil companies are involved.
