The Algorithm?

So over at xkcd, the author is saying:

We did not invent the algorithm. The algorithm consistently finds Jesus. The algorithm killed Jeeves. The algorithm is banned in China. The algorithm is from Jersey. The algorithm constantly finds Jesus. This is not the algorithm. This is close.

There’s no secret to this. I think he’s just hijacking a viral campaign started by Ask.com.

I think the add campaign is also capitalizing on algorithmic trading. Just look at the recent popularity of the word in the Journal and other trade rags.

He’s hijacked it fairly successfully, too – the site, last I checked, was the top rank for a quoted search of most of those sentences. They’ve been doing this for about a month or so now, though, so I don’t know if they still hold the top rankings.
