Y’all Should Twitter
Tue, 26 Jun 2007.
Seriously, I don’t know why you all start blogs that you are never going to keep anyway.
Instead, you should sign up for Twitter and then add me to your friends list.
For those of you that don’t keep up with the internet’s social technology, Twitter condenses the world of blogging into the size of an SMS message. You get 140 characters per post to capture a moment or thought.
What makes it awesomesauce is that you can update Twitter from the web, GTalk, mobile phone or a desktop application. Then you can receive updates from your Twitter friends via email, phone, RSS or whatever. It is blogging and it is spamming your friends with your important life moments (but they can turn it off if they hate you).
I’ve been kinda using it for a while now with Studds, Dennis and Dave as my guinea pigs and I can say it’s really nice. It’s kind of fun to know so-and-so is out getting their tyres rotated or someone saw a bum pick his nose. It’s for those messages that never really come up in conversation but can be fascinating all on their own. It is blogging lite but you use it for a while and it feels like something else too, like a new way to reach out to friends.
A word of warning: sometimes you will get friended by completely random people. They are advertisers hoping to widen their audience. It’s no big deal if they friend you because they won’t read your posts anyway (but you can block them if that makes you feel better). If you friend them, you will start getting updates from them and that might get annoying.
