Going To Japan

Tagged:

Hi guys, I have probably not mentioned this to the large majority of you but I’m taking a vacation to Japan in November this year. I’ll be going for two and a half weeks. That means I won’t have any leftover vacation time to make a trip back to Australia to be reunited with the friends and family that I so dearly miss.

Cherry Blossoms

This photo was taken in Canada. Yay Canada.

The deciding factor in this trade-off were my parents. When I asked them for their opinion, they flat out told me it was too early to be returning home.

So that’s the ultimatum. If you absolutely must hang out with me, you’ll need to either come to Seattle or fly to Japan this November. When will I come back to visit Australia? I don’t know, maybe Q3 2008?

In the meantime, I need to study some Japanese although the American mindset in me says that I can just go to any foreign country, scream English at the natives and throw wads of greenbacks at them.

I’ll come to Japan with you Juckles!!! :D

When you say Q3 2008, do you mean calendar year or Australian financial year?

Jack

I of course mean Q3 US FY. Or I guess Q3 CY.

That being said, I know a lot of companies seem to have their own definition of quarters. Earnings reports seem to be able to occur in any damn month of the year.

Thank you Hui-Ai for coming to Japan with me. You are a kind person. :D

Mike

I’ll come to Japan with you to Jack! If your willing to buy my ticket for me :-P. I will get up to Seattle at some point, who knows when though. Have fun in Japan, take heaps of photos :-)

Dennis

Hey awesome. Japan is a pretty cool place. :)

Any ideas on where you’ll be visiting?

Jack

Well we’re gonna be there for 2 and a half weeks so that will give us a decent amount of time to see the sights. Right now, I’m not sure what people have planned. The idea is that we see a lot of temples.

Personally, I’d like to check out the anime stores (shut up), see some of the nightlife and track down the fabled Gyoza Stadium.

Dennis

Cool. :D

If I had to recommend a couple of places…

Nara – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C5%8Ddai-ji .. it’s f’king huge! Himeji Castle – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Himeji_Castle Hiroshima is pretty amazing too… if you’re going there, I’d recommend checking out Miyajima island.

Anyway.. that’s enough destination-dropping for now. :P

I second going to Himeji, Hiroshima and Miyajima!!! Time for another meeting, methinks!

Jack

Yes another meeting! Did anyone read the document I sent out? I know I didn’t.

Tip: avoid scheduling too many temple visits, especially in Kyoto. Pick the spectacular ones (Golden, Kiyomizu, the one with the giant orange torii) and don’t bother with the other ones no matter what their claim to fame. It’s so easy to get temple’d-out there.
