I saw Seattle from a distance
Tue, 27 Nov 2007.
I am back home in Seattle. The skies are clear, the temperature is just above freezing point, the omnipresent drizzle says hello and the city is lit up like Christmas. At a distance, the fluorescent lights of offices glow warmly and the street lights spew orange.
The trip was great; so unexpectedly great. We all have our complaints about the trip but on the second last day, somewhere on the Shinkansen, I realised how appreciative I am of the past 2 weeks; warts and all. It’s just been a once-in-a-lifetime for me and I can see myself blabbing about Japan for a long time.
Things I could and would talk about:
- The hot but extremely kind lady in Kyoto that made our entire party of 6 go “aww”
- Spending an evening speaking awkward Japanese with our Kyoto landlord
- Cheap restaurant food
- Coin trays at the checkout
- The insane amount of temples
- Why Tokyo sucks
- Japanese politeness vs. American politeness (yes, it exists)
- Flying to be back home vs. flying to work there vs. flying for vacation
- Talking to a 10-year-old for an entire 8-hour flight
- Exiting a bus by squeezing past of a long line of Japanese schoolgirls
- The nice foreigners we met at the Nikko Park Lodge
I’m sure I’ve missed something here. There are many many thoughts to get into order. And many many photos to put together. I am back at work too so it might be a long time coming. But more comments from you will mean more writing from me. :)

sounds like you guys had a whole bunch of fun :)
wow authentic japanese school girls :P
Yeah they were real. Sailor suits, peace signs, white panties and all.
Yeah, lets talk about these Japanese school girls some more…you can suck in all the guys searching for it on Google. Your hits will go through the roof.
…also post pictures of said school girls..not for me …for umm…the Google people…and mike.
I’m going to say that I want to see photo’s with short witty descriptions, lots of them. That is all. I’ll leave the school girl and Google jokes in the very capable hands of Andrew.
