“Wouldn’t be a Lemon party without old Dick!”
So I recently linked to a blog post detailing the art of the two-percenter, a joke that only 2% of your audience will get. The holy grail of comedy is, of course, a joke that feels like a 2% joke but actually hits at the majority of your audience.
Anyway, case in point: last night’s episode of 30 Rock, Ludachristmas. Liz Lemon’s parents (Dick Lemon and Margaret Lemon) are in town and the writers manage to squeeze not one but two references to “lemon party”. (To be fair, 30 Rock did slip in a reference in one of their earlier episodes but it was so subtle, you’d almost think it was the quiet subordination of a disgruntled writer.)
What is lemon party? It’s an internet shock site. Don’t google it, it’s NSFW. It’s not safe for anything. For those that have never encountered internet shock sites before, they exist to gross people out and permanently scar them with a horrible visual. Lemon party is one of the older ones but the new one making the rounds is “2 girls, 1 cup” (which, to be honest, is a lot worse than lemon party).
