Do I Have Any Annoying Habits?
Fri, 22 Feb 2008.
I am updating and re-posting old blog entires with new titles.
This was originally posted on 26 October 2004 and was titled A Walk in the Park.
Sounds of children playing and laughing. The stage is filled with the usual sounds of a park in the afternoon.
A BOY and a GIRL walk casually through the park, she is wearing a fashionable skirt and shouldering a purse. They walk in a tight embrace with their arms entangled because they’re both insecure.
GIRL
Do I have any annoying habits? Like, is there anything I do that really ticks you off?
BOY
I can’t think of any. Do I do anything like that?
GIRL
I don’t want to say anything if you don’t have anything to say about me…
BOY
So there are things that annoy you? Like what?
GIRL
I don’t want to say… Anyway, I asked you first so you have to say.
The BOY holds her a little tighter and silently worries that she may be falling out of love with him. Neither of them say anything for a while.
BOY
I like that skirt.
GIRL
Really? You’re not just saying that?
BOY
I mean it.
GIRL
Aww thanks. I was hoping you would.
BOY
It’s cute. Suits you.
There is silence again as the couple’s glances alternate between staring into the distance and staring at each other. The sound of an ice-cream truck can be heard in the distance.
GIRL
Do you want some ice-cream?
BOY
Sure, if you want some.
GIRL
I’m not sure if I do…
BOY
How about vanilla? I remember you saying you love vanilla.
GIRL
No, I think I feel like strawberry today.
BOY
Ok, so I’ll get two strawberry cones?
GIRL
Yes. No, wait. Maybe you should get a vanilla for yourself.
BOY
Why?
She shrugs innocently. She’s hopelessly confused about the whole idea.
BOY
Alright, I’ll go buy them now.
The BOY breaks their embrace and starts to step away.
GIRL
Wait, do you need me to pay?
BOY
No it’s ok. I’ll pay for it.
GIRL
Are you sure? I don’t mind.
BOY
Well do you want to pay? I mean, I’m OK either way.
GIRL
(rummaging through purse) Oh wait, let me check if I actually have the money.
And… scene.

Ooh.. I feel like ice cream now. Cookies and cream! :D
Cute story by the way.. It kinda reminds me of my own inability to make decisions when I’m around other people. :-/
They win the most overly self-aware couple of the year award.
Ugh, that reminds me of myself, too.
I think that reminds me of me and any girl or me and Mike. Only difference is with Mike is its more a fear of being hit that makes me want to please him constantly.
I never could understand how couples could walk like that. It always felt like I was going to topple over, so I gave that up after… oh, the first try. And then I felt stupid for trying it in the first place.
Umm. . .why are your re-posting old blog entries? What’s your qualifier? Are these your favorites? The ones with the most traffic?
zak: The qualifier is whimsy. These are not necessarily favorites and I never had enough traffic on my blog to even know which ones were the most popular. I just thought it’d be fun to repost my old (and not necessarily good) fiction that I wrote. Thanks for stopping by.
