I went to an Oasis concert last night. On a whim, I had agreed to purchase a ticket months in advance and by the day of the concert, I was not very excited about going. I thought to myself, “I’m not an Oasis fan. Sure, I have Morning Glory and even their 2005 record, Don’t Believe the Truth but I’ve never truly followed them. I’m only going to have fun during the songs that I know and all the other ones will be boring.”
Well, ladies and gentlemen, at around 9:15pm last night, Oasis proved me horribly, horribly right. I zoned out during the songs I didn’t know. Partly because I was tired. Mostly because they weren’t too interested in engaging the audience. Before every song, Liam would mumble something quick, “This is a new one,” or “You might know this one.” That’s about all he said. Not much of a showman.
As a side note, I understand that Liam Gallagher has a thick accent but I don’t appreciate some audience members saying he should “speak English.” Dude is from Manchester and he was speaking perfect English.
The venue was WaMu Theater and it felt weird to be seated for a rock concert. I think “Oasis” and I’m all, “Yeah! It’s the bad boys of Britpop!” Everyone stood up but we were all neatly spaced out so there wasn’t anything remotely dangerous about to happen. This venue was too cushy.
After all that whining, I did actually enjoy myself. The two bands that opened were decent. Fuckin’ In The Bushes makes for a strong opening song but it was sad that the whole song came from a recording and the band just calmly walks on stage. The acoustic version of Don’t Look Back in Anger was brilliant. And closing with I Am The Walrus was a bit of fun, Liam’s voice is a perfect fit for that song.
