@all the wine: I had a HUGE 3G problem in downtown SF. From what I've read, basically it's hard to use 3G in a place where there are lots of other iPhones. I couldn't get a decent signal and was stuck on EDGE most of the time until we got out on to the freeway (though there is no 3G reception on the Bay Bridge itself).

3G can be a bit spotty in downtown Seattle too but better than SF. Outside of those crowded downtown areas, the reception is great.

This problem is supposed to be fixed with the iPhone 2.1 update.

question....

Do you have a 3G problem? I was in SF and my friend had a big one, he had to stay on Edge, unless he was going to surf the web.

However over here in the midwest my 3G is crystal clear and full strength all the time. I even updated the 2.0.2 with no affect. I feel like I'm the only one without any 3G problems. I do occasionally turn it off to save battery (something that will hopefully be fixed on Friday!)

@deutlich: Shh. Don't call it "San Fran" or "Frisco", it upsets the natives. They prefer "SF" or just "the city". I'm going to start calling it "San-Fran-Frisco City'.
