More about TV

Tagged:

Because Diana asked nicely last time, I’m going to write some more stuff about the TV shows that I watch. Spoilers ahead, mateys.

Heroes

First of all, if you’re on Twitter then you might want to follow Greg Grunberg, aka Matt Parkman, aka the dead pilot from Lost. He does post a lot but it’s kinda cool to hear everyday thoughts from him in a weird, cult-of-celebrity kind of way. Also, Parkman is way cool in this season.

I love how Hiro and Claire go back 16 years ago. Time travel does fuck up all sorts of continuity (such as: would Sylar have decided to kill non-catalyst Claire?), but I still enjoy seeing younger versions and little touches of dramatic irony.

The speed at which Arthur Petrelli obtained the catalyst, passed it on and subsequently died makes him feel like a silly plot device. But it is actually interesting now that Nathan is evil and Peter’s powers are gone and the only omnipotent one is Sylar again.

I love/hate that Elle died. Hate because she is great eye candy without the feelings of jailbait creepiness that are associated with a certain cheerleader. Love because it always felt like Kirsten Bell was outstaying her guest role. I never expected her to be around for as long as she was. Also, wouldn’t it be really gross if the Noah Bennett in the past fell for future Claire? They’re not blood related and she hasn’t told him that she’s really from the future. (Why do I think these things?)

Dexter

My god, this is the show that I look forward to every week now. I’m not going to spoil anything but it’s just an extremely well-paced show and this season has Dexter and a nemesis paired up in such a delicious way. While not as edge-of-your-seat as season two, it satisfies in other more delicious ways.

30 Rock

My girlfriend joked that she was going to get me a Tina Fey poster for Christmas and it made me really angry because I knew she was not serious about it. I would hang a Tina Fey poster on my wall. Maybe a photo from the Vanity Fair spread?

I don’t know, 30 Rock is a solid sit-com and I think it’s great in the way Iron Man was a great action movie. They embrace their genres and they don’t hesitate suspend disbelief in the pursuit of great entertainment. There was a reddit thread about must-watch TV and a lot of votes for 30 Rock but I’m hesitant to recommend it. It’s probably the best sit-com around and Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin are pure comedy gold but I guess I don’t see 30 Rock hanging around in the public consciousness for long.

The Office

I love Jim and Pam. I mean, I am crazy delirious for them but somehow, this show is tiring me out. Holly was awesome and it darn near broke my heart when Michael started telling off his boss over the phone for moving Holly away. A great human moment.

I want to feel sorry for Andy but I can’t because he’s just a big ignorant jerk and I think I’m stuck between sympathizing and ridiculing him. I don’t particularly feel sorry for Angela. So really, the only person I can feel sorry for is Dwight so they’d really need to break his heart in order for me to care about this love triangle at all.

Phew.

They NEED to bring Holly back. She was perfect.

poodlegoose

Yes, more Holly. And less of the love triangle. I really am getting annoyed with it. And Dexter? So awesome. (Thought I’d add some real comments this time, and not one stupid one that has no context whatsoever ;))

No mention of Mad Men?

Jack

Sadly, I don’t watch Mad Men, The Wire or a host of other brilliant shows. One day, perhaps.
