I Don’t Like The New Top Chef Judge

Tagged:

I have to say something about the latest episode of Top Chef.

First, I’m glad Eugene went home. Sure, he’s not a guy that’s afraid of experimenting and trying crazy things but his ideas always seem to go in the wrong direction and after each judging round, he just seems to ignore the advice and stay the course. Of course, I can’t speak for what his food tastes like.

Second, a “Diet Dr Pepper Challenge” sounds ridiculous. Thankfully, you didn’t force them the chefs to actually use the product but instead just made them make a sugarless dessert. One of the contestants complained about guest judge, Jean-Christophe Novelli, picking apart their dish. I’d say that’s a good thing. Not necessarily something I’d want of every judge but finesse counts for something, right?

My main point is, what’s with this new British judge, Toby Young? I’ve never heard of the guy before but he shows up at the table with these long-winded attempts at wit. Compared to him, the product placement in Top Chef no longer looks quite as obnoxious. Ted Allen is witty without being a douchebag, and Anthony Bourdain is critical without resorting to amateur stand-up. I agree with Carla’s cries for Gail to come back (I assume she’s too busy doing wedding/newlywed stuff).

Finally, Fabio is just ridiculously cute. I love his accent to pieces and I nearly died when he says, “This is Top Chef! Not Top Scallop!” He might just be a fan favorite because he’s got a nice enough personality and manages the charm the hell out of the cameras.

Toby’s not a big deal in his home country. He was a critic for a British newspaper, I forget which, but the emphasis is totally on WAS.

First of all, I’m so sorry I’m getting to this post so late. Secondly, I have been keeping up this time, so be proud of me! I’m all caught up.

Thirdly, I hate this Toby guy, too. He is too cliche and thinks he’s super witty. I wish I could see if Tom really does give him those exasperated looks. I’ll bet he’s rethinking their decision now.

I love Fabio, too (I continuously think about “Top Scallop” every time Jamie makes one). I actually really like Jeff, because even though they make him out to be some pretty boy, he’s actually not too bad.

Ok, enough already. I’m sorry :)
