Reading About Twilight

Stop! Come back, I swear I’m still sane. Just hear me out for a few paragraphs before you run away. (If you are a Twilight fan, it’s ok to leave now because the longer you stare at my blog, the more money I make from advertising views and you don’t want a Twilight-hating bigot like me to get rich at your expense).

I’ve been reading a lot about Twilight. I haven’t read the books themselves but I’m quite entertained by all the commentary around it. I’ve read the critics’ panning of the movie, I’ve read about how the series has converted Forks, WA into a tourist trap (supposedly one bakery sells Edward Bites and Bella Creams, quite witty) and most importantly, I’ve read all the criticism surrounding the book’s impact on feminism and its abstinence themes.

I’m not interested in the books, I’m just enjoying the chatter that it has inadvertently kicked up. What I’m really interested in: 1) this somewhat-intelligent conversation around what feminism will mean to the children of today and 2) this weird untapped market of abstinence fantasies.
