Started reading Dune again

Tagged: , ,

I’ve started reading fiction again. I thought my foray should be best served by revisiting an old love, Frank Herbert’s Dune. Wow. I’m only a few chapters in but what amazing writing. The thing I love most about it is there’s so much nuance to every conversation. Everyone is a political player and each have their own hidden motives.

It’s something that could never really be done with film, something unique to the written word. Herbert just embraces the medium and pulls in all these machinations and hints to warring factions and long histories. It’s something that can’t be enjoyed without keeping track of all the larger forces at play, otherwise you’re just lost in a maze; stuck in a room full of grown-ups talking nonsense.

Hopefully this is the beginning of a trend and I can fall in love with writing all over again.

Good choice! My favorites are series, and I really enjoy The Dark Tower by King and The Wheel of Time by Jordan. Or the Babysitters Club, but I think I sold those at a yard sale ;)
